So what's inspiring me this month? My current thing is post-apocalyptic-chic. Lose, drapey tops, distressed/waxed/decorated jeans, ass-kicking work boots, army jackets, intricate metalwork, tons of bright colors OR all monochrome (I'm bored with all neutral + one pop of color), lots of leather and suede, and hand detail. Inspired by:

Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys
The Killjoys, the new personas of MCR, are characters living in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of California. I've been an MCR fan since 2004, and while I wasn't a huge fan of Black Parade, I love Killjoys. The marketing for it, their outfits, the songs and the videos all come together to give a bleak yet somehow party-fabulous view of the future. Bring down BL/ind., Killjoys! I've lately been drawing a lot of inspiration from their outfits and color palettes.
Tank Girl! I watched the movie for the first time when I was maybe seven or eight and fell madly in love. Now I hoard the comic books. I love that all of her clothing is hand-customized and modded for the post-meteorite lifestyle. Lots of army green, stripes, checks, and patches for me please!
So I totally adore Ke$ha. Mostly because I subscribe to the theory that she's a parody of pop music and is actually kind of a genius. The K$'s n' Friends video for Take It Off (and the Official Video for Take It Off) are both pretty preposterous. The Official Video has Ke$ha and a bunch of dancers at an abandoned hotel in the middle of the desert, dancing and exploding into colorful dust. Lots of rusted out cars, designer-hobo clothes, dramatic accessories, and and abandoned swimming pool. Want. The K$'s n' Friends version is a blue color palette, equally intense clothes, and hilarious special effects as well. And Jeffree Starr in a dance battle. With a chainsaw. Not kidding.
Brands I am currently adoring are:
- AllSaints. They just had a 25% off sale so I got three amaaaazing shirts, a cardigan and a dress. Will post pics soon.
- Jeffrey Campbell, my favorite shoe designer of all time. Just got some black leather wedges.
- Cheap Monday for oversized parka jackets and jeans
- Gentle Fawn, draped and studden black/grey tops and sweaters. Om nom nom.
